Founded in 1998, the Edinburgh University Trading & Investment Club (EUTIC) manages one of the UK’s largest student-run real money investment portfolios.
Our objectives are to educate students about the world of finance, give members real-life experience in trading stocks, provide opportunities to network with some of the world’s most prestigious firms, and help members pursue careers in the financial services industry and other leading graduate recruiters.
EUTIC holds a weekly club-wide meeting that gives members the opportunity to learn more about finance and current affairs. The line-up includes fund updates, debates, educational talks, as well as external and internal speakers. Join us on Mondays, 6:30 at David Hume Tower Lecture Theatre A.
The EUTIC Fund is managed by 9 dedicated sectors, each focusing on a different research area. By joining a sector you can get involved in managing the fund, looking into an industry that you're passionate about. EUTIC provides you with a unique opportunity to learn about investment at no personal risk as well as meeting new people. Drop by one of the weekly sector meetings and join the conversation!
EUTIC is lucky to have a fantastic range of industry-leading sponsors, each with a commitment to attracting the best talent to their firms. By attending our sponsor events, including presentations, networking events, insight days, and competitions throughout the year, you will be able to meet professionals and find out more about possible gradate employment opportunities.
Our members actively participate in the investment of the EUTIC fund by undertaking roles as analysts in a given research sector. This gives you the chance to develop key technical skills through the research of potential investments, analysis of company information, and interpretation of the current economic tendencies. Stocks and bonds are then pitched to our investment panel comprised of committee members and industry professionals.
We promote events such as CV improvement workshops, networking events, company presentations and alumni talks for members insterested in pursuing a career in the financial services industry. In fact, more than 65% of our members have secured spring weeks and/or internships in the financial services industry.
EUTIC, with 9 sectors, an annual conference, and various networking events, gives you the perfect chance to meet other students as well as professionals. Our social events throughout the year, such as our Christmas Banquet and Annual Gala are a great place to relax and celebrate the work done throughout the year.
An annual EUTIC membership costs £5 for any matriculated University of Edinburgh student, and £10 for non-students. Semester memberships are also available.
Alternative stands apart from the rest of EUTIC’s sectors by investing in any type of financial asset, be they REITs, mutual funds, bonds or ETFs, in any industry. Our focus is to generate the best returns wherever they may come from.
The Basic Materials sector is at the heart of the global economy, encompassing stocks that engage in the discovery, development and processing of raw materials. Our focus is to analyse key political and macroeconomic drivers and predict how they will impact our industry in order to maximise returns.
In Consumer we can invest into anything you can buy. We look at consumption patterns and macroeconomic trends that effect companies specializing in consumer goods. These companies have links to retail, technology, industrial production and other goods an individual can purchase.
The Energy & Utilities Sector looks at the key political, economic and financial drivers of one of the biggest, and most dynamic industries in the world.
The Financial Sector is a highly cyclical section of the economy made up of firms that provide financial services to commercial and retail customers. This includes investment banks, commercial banks, hedge funds and insurance companies.
The healthcare sector is diverse and evolving, combining innovations at the forefront of TMT, scientific research and consumer industries to improve the lives of everyone, everyday, everywhere.
As the newest EUTIC sector, on top of generating financial returns – we invest in companies that also aim to generate a positive impact on the society and the environment.
The Industrial Sector provides goods and services used in construction, manufacturing and by the military. From industrial robots operated by AI to spacecraft that will make space travel a reality, the sector stands at the forefront of innovation.
